For training managers and administrators

Create and publish courses

Prepare course content, rewards, and collaborators and publish it. This article is for training managers and administrators.

Contents

Before you start

You need administrative training access. A course defines content and rewards; each event defines how it is offered, its audience, and its participants. Scheduled events add dates, mode, and seats, while anytime events have no dates or capacity. Prepare the course first, publish it, then create an event. Until that event is published, the course does not appear in My learning.

Create the course record

  1. Open Course catalog.
  2. Select Add.
  3. Complete Name, Description, and Area.
  4. Save the course. Talento opens the new draft's Dashboard directly.

Estimated hours, mode, and, for scheduled events, dates and capacity belong to the event, not to the course.

Prepare content and rewards

  1. Organise content into topics, lessons, and segments.
  2. Add text, files, and resources.
  3. Add surveys or tests and mark required ones.
  4. Select skills the course grants or renews, and optionally set a level for each.
  5. Add documents granted on completion.

Required surveys can block progress or passing. Check the learner experience before review.

Add collaborators

  1. Add co-authors only when other people need to prepare content; they are optional.
  2. Assign reviewers only when another person should decide publication.
  3. If the company needs a formal flow, create a course approval rule.

If no active course approval rule applies, the person who creates the course can publish it even when a reviewer is assigned. Reviewers cannot edit the content they assess. See Collaborate on and review courses.

Review, publish, or archive the course

  1. From Dashboard, publish the draft, or submit it when you want another person to review it. Follow the formal flow when an approval rule is active.
  2. If it is in review, the reviewer or approver Publishes or Requests changes (a change request needs a note).
  3. When it returns to draft, its authors see the latest note on Dashboard, make corrections, and resubmit it.
  4. After publishing the course, select Create event and choose Scheduled event or Available anytime.
  5. Archive it only when no future event or active path assignment blocks it.

Tip

After you publish the course, create and publish an event. Without a published event, the course does not appear in My learning and nobody can enroll.

Warning

Archiving cannot be undone. The course disappears from new selections and discovery but remains available through historical links.

Training managers can correct published content, including missing attachments, without unpublishing the course.

Owners, co-authors, and training managers can use ⋯ → Move to draft to unpublish a course. Confirmed enrollments with pending outcomes block this action; the warning recommends Duplicate as draft instead. Completed, waitlisted, withdrawn, and cancelled enrollments do not block it. Returning to draft preserves history, stops new enrollments, and resets previous approval.

Common problems

  • I published the course and nobody can see it: it still needs a published event. Publishing the course only enables Create event.
  • Publication is unavailable: check whether a course approval rule is active.
  • Content is incomplete: check topics, lessons, segments, and required surveys.
  • You cannot edit published content: ask a training manager to correct it, or duplicate it as a draft for a new version.
  • Archiving fails: check future events and active paths.
