Before you start
You need published courses and a clear sequence. Decide which steps are required, who receives the path, and whether earlier completions count.
Create path steps
- Open Learning paths and create a draft.
- Add published courses in order.
- Mark each step required or optional.
- Choose whether earlier completions count.
Required steps block later ones. Optional steps increase total progress but do not block completion.
Configure audience and deadline
- Set a relative completion deadline.
- Add at least one inclusive audience rule.
- Add exclusions where needed.
- Preview the audience.
Each course event retains its availability type and audience. Scheduled events retain their dates and seats; anytime events have no date or capacity. A path assignment does not guarantee that someone belongs to an event's audience or, for a scheduled event, has a seat.
Publish the path
- Check that at least one step is required.
- Review audience and deadline.
- Publish and monitor assignments prepared in the background.
Talento assigns active included people, calculates deadlines, and counts earlier completions only when enabled.
Archive the path
- Review active assignments.
- Archive to stop new assignments.
- Review affected assignments.
Archiving cancels unstarted assignments that should no longer continue but preserves existing progress and history.
Warning
Archiving stops new assignments and cancels unstarted assignments. Started and completed work remains in the history.
Common problems
- Publication fails: add an inclusive rule and a required step.
- Someone receives no assignment: check that they are active and included.
- A course is locked: complete the first pending required step.
- No event is available: check availability type and audience; for scheduled events, also check dates and seats.
