Before you start
The Skills area records employees' abilities, knowledge, licences, and certifications. A skill can be awarded through successful training or added manually with its date and supporting evidence. When periodic renewal is required, Talento calculates the expiry date and can warn people in advance.
Managers can review the skills of employees within their scope, while the organisation can set coverage targets for a company, office, team, or individual employee.
Information
Employees do not currently have a separate personal catalogue where they can add or edit their own skills. Skills earned through training appear at course completion; authorised employees manage the full inventory, dates, and evidence from the employee record.
Create a skill
- Open Skills.
- Select Add new skill.
- Enter a clear name and select a skill category.
- If it expires, define its validity period.
- Set how far in advance Talento should send the warning.
- When needed, also notify a selected responsible person.
- Save the skill.
Use stable categories that group related abilities meaningfully. Avoid near-duplicate names: they divide coverage between separate records and make reports harder to interpret.
Assign a skill with evidence
From Employees, open the employee and select the Skills tab. Choose Add skill, then record:
- the skill being awarded;
- the date it was obtained;
- details identifying the source or evidence.
For an expiring skill, Talento uses the obtained or renewal date to calculate the next expiry and notification. After correcting a date, check the result shown on the employee record.
Training can also award a linked skill when participation is marked as attended or approved. Do not add a duplicate manually if the training has already created it.
Warning
Do not record a qualification without sufficient evidence. A current skill may inform work assignments, compliance decisions, or access to particular duties.
Define coverage targets
Open a skill from Skills and select Add target. Define:
- how many employees should hold the skill;
- whether the target applies to the company, an office, a team, or one employee;
- an optional deadline.
The skill page shows its targets and the employees who currently hold it. Make each target specific and reviewable; create separate targets when groups need different levels of coverage.
Keep the catalogue reliable
Review skill names, categories, validity periods, responsible people, and targets regularly. Before deleting or substantially changing a skill used by training, job positions, or recruitment, check those relationships and the impact on existing records.
When a professional requirement changes, update the courses and plans that provide a route to earning it. The catalogue should describe the current need and make renewal or attainment understandable.
Result
The skill detail and employee record show the saved evidence, dates, expiry, and applicable targets.
Troubleshooting
If an option is missing, check the active module, specific permission, and record scope. If the configuration is correct and the problem continues, keep the displayed message and contact support.
