Earn and maintain skills

Identify skills linked to training and act before a certification or ability expires. This article is for people who carry out this task.

Contents

Before you start

The Skills area records employees' abilities, knowledge, licences, and certifications. A skill can be awarded through successful training or added manually with its date and supporting evidence. When periodic renewal is required, Talento calculates the expiry date and can warn people in advance.

Managers can review the skills of employees within their scope, while the organisation can set coverage targets for a company, office, team, or individual employee.

Information

Employees do not currently have a separate personal catalogue where they can add or edit their own skills. Skills earned through training appear at course completion; authorised employees manage the full inventory, dates, and evidence from the employee record.

Identify the skills linked to training

  1. Open Training Events.
  2. Look for skill labels on an event card.
  3. Open the event to review its content and associated skills.
  4. Check the completion requirements before signing up.

A label means the course is linked to that skill. It does not mean you already have it; the skill is awarded only when you complete or pass the training with the required status.

Complete training and earn skills

Work through every lesson and complete all required surveys or tests. When the course is approved, the completion page shows the skills you earned.

If you already have an expiring skill, another valid completion can renew its date. Talento keeps an existing later date rather than replacing it with an older training result.

See Training for the full registration, progress, and approval workflow.

Act when a skill is about to expire

When a skill has a validity period, Talento calculates its expiry and can send a warning before that date. The notification identifies the skill so you can arrange renewal with the appropriate person.

When you receive a warning:

  1. check the skill and expiry date;
  2. confirm which course, certificate, or evidence your company requires;
  3. arrange the renewal with enough notice;
  4. check afterwards that the new date has been recorded.

Warning

A notification does not renew the skill. If the qualification is required for your work, also follow the company's mandatory safety or compliance process.

Result

The course completion page shows any awarded skills, and the recorded date determines their next expiry where applicable.

Troubleshooting

If an option is missing, it may depend on your permissions, active modules, or company configuration. Ask an administrator to review your access rather than repeating the task or choosing an unsuitable alternative.
