Before you start
Open Custom fields, choose an area in the selector, and select Add field for…. Enter the name, area, and type. Use a short name that makes sense in the form without repeating the area name.
Create selection options
For a single- or multiple-selection field, add the options in the order in which they should be read. Every label must be unique within the field.
Keep the choices collectively understandable. If Not applicable means something different from leaving the field blank, add it as an explicit option. Deactivate an option when it should not be used for new records but its historical meaning must be retained.
Tip
Do not rename an option in use to give it a different meaning. The new label will also appear against historical values; create a new option and retire the old one.
The preview updates with the name, type, required state, and available options. It is disabled: use it to check the result, not to save a value.
An active selection field needs at least one available option. You can save an incomplete selection field as inactive and finish it later; Needs attention identifies legacy active fields that do not yet meet this rule.
Decide whether the field is required
Enable Required only when every new or edited record in the area can provide a valid value. A required field with no value prevents the record from being saved.
Before enabling it on an existing field:
- check whether existing records have a value;
- decide who will complete missing data;
- validate that every necessary option is active;
- communicate when the requirement starts.
During creation, Available immediately controls whether the field is activated when saved. Afterwards, use Lifecycle: deactivation retains the definition and values but removes the field from normal use.
Arrange fields
In the Custom fields list, select the area and drag fields into the order in which they should appear. You can also focus the order control and use Arrow Up or Arrow Down; Talento announces the position and restores the previous order if saving fails. Place the most common or process-critical information first.
The order does not change the meaning or saved values. Review it in a real form from that area to make sure the sequence is clear on both desktop and mobile.
Result
Open a record in the affected area to confirm the fields, options, required state, and order appear as intended.
Troubleshooting
If an option is missing, check the active module, specific permission, and record scope. If the configuration is correct and the problem continues, keep the displayed message and contact support.
